Internet Networking Site - WWW.FACEBOOK.COM

Over the course of this next week I’m going to write posts about internet networking places teenagers are involved in right now. Good or bad all that I give you will simply be my opinion.

In this post I’m going to cover one of my favorite network websites called Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/).

I believe a lot of networking websites can be very poor and have very obscure advertisements. Facebook does not seem to be this way. There is a lot of accountability when you have facebook with your friends.

When you sign on to facebook it takes you to a home page. The home page shows you the activity of all your friends. So when Jennifer Mills becomes friends with Brian Mills on facebook all my other friends can see that. When I write a note or post pictures all my friends can see all recent activity. If one of them makes a comment on a picture, video or note then all their friends can see it.

As you can see there is a lot of accountability in facebook. I would allow my teenager to have a facebook and most of our students do. I do encourage parents that when their teen starts a facebook they should also start one and become one of their friends. It is all for accountability.

Can facebook be bad? Sure! Can’t anything! You can join groups, which all can see, but some groups are bad. You can post bad pictures, but again, all can see them!

Is having a “wall” where others can write on bad? I don’t think so. I use this feature every day. It is a way to communicate with your friends. I see nothing wrong with it.

I watch many students take a stand for the Lord on facebook. It is a great place to show your Love for our God!

If your teenager is interested in this and you’re not sure about it, I hope this helps you. I encourage all parents to be highly involved in their teen’s lives. Ask them about their facebook or even ask them if you can look at it.
In a quest to find what is popular online, Youth Trends recently asked 17-to-25-year-olds to name their top three favorite websites. Facebook.com dominated the results among both men and women.

Among Women Ages 17-25
69% Facebook
38% MySpace
22% YouTube
13% Google
10% CNN

Among Men Ages 17-25
56% Facebook
19% YouTube
17% Yahoo!
17% Google
16% ESPN

If you want to know more call me and I will show it to you. Hope this helps!
